Almost 7 years after the release of the Playstation 4, Sony finally presented the first concrete details of the new console on June 11 at their "Future of Gaming" event. Even though many details about the new Playstation 5 became known, some questions remained open: Release date & prices.

Concerning the release date, all that is known is that the console "Holiday 2020" is supposed to appear on the market, i.e. towards the end of the year. The fact that Sony has not yet released any prices could be because they want to wait for the prices of the new XBox console to undercut them. Sony already pursued a similar strategy when they announced the PS4. Apart from that, there are also already plenty of confirmed features and information about the new Playstation, which we will discuss a bit more in the following article. Let us start with the essential, the design. The design of the controller has been known for quite some time, but now we also know how the future console will fit into our interior design at home.

Even if no official measurements are known, the PS5 appears a bit larger than the PS4, which could be related to the cooling system, which will probably also be or have to be a bit more powerful on the new console. Otherwise, it appears in a simple but elegant white. Furthermore, 2 "versions" are supposed to be released for the start, once a console with a Blu-Ray drive and a "Digital Edition" without a drive. Hardware-wise, the console should be at the very front and the very fast SSD hard disk alone will make the difference. In terms of backwards compatibility, Sony has also repeatedly assured that this will be possible at least for PS4 games. However, we do not know exactly which ones yet.

Also in terms of games, there have already been some announcements and some gameplay material. Here is a short list of the game highlights for the upcoming console:

  • Resident Evil Village
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Dragon Age 4
  • Oddworld Soulstorm
  • Gollum
  • DiRT 5
  • Godfall
  • Hitman 3
  • NBA 2K21
  • Demon's Souls Remake

It is not yet known which games will be released and which will be released later. But what we have seen in the trailers so far makes us want more and makes the waiting time until the end of 2020 even more difficult!
